Saint-Germain-En-Laye is a sub-prefecture and the largest commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France. It is one of the western suburbs of Paris, 19 km (11 miles) from its centre. The population of the commune is just above forty three thousand inhabitants, known as Saint-Germanois. Saint-Germain-En-Laye is one of the wealthiest Parisian suburbs, with elegant streets, exclusive neighbourhoods and high-end leisure spots. The commune accommodates the Chateau de St-Germain-En-Laye and the Forest of Saint-Germain-En-Laye.
One of the notable companies with a head office in the commune is Capcom Entertainment France, a subsidiary of the video games publisher Capcom, Japan. There are many locations available for businesses to rent office space in the area.
Entertainment And Dining Out
The city has a lot to offer in terms of sights and activities, including several museums. There is the National Museum of Archaeology, which has one of the most valuable collections in Europe. Another is the Claude Debussy Museum, where visitors can get acquainted with the work of the famous French composer. There is also the Municipal Museum of Art and History. Other cultural attractions include Alexandre Dumas theatre and several festivals including the Fetes Des Loges. Saint-Germain-en-Laye is also a popular site for filming French movies and TV shows. The commune is known to be the birthplace of two classic French recipes: apples blown and the béarnaise sauce. Visitors can taste several wonders of French gastronomy in the local restaurants. Establishments of particular note are Cazaudehore Hotel Restaurant and Pavillon Henri IV.
Saint-Germain-En-Laye is served by two lines: the Paris RER line A and the suburban rail line Transilien Paris Saint-Lazare. The Paris RER uses the Saint-Germain-En-Laye station, while in the Transilien train stops at both Saint-Germain Bel-Air Fourqueux and Saint-Germain Grande Ceinture stations. Both means of transportation cover an extra station (Achères Grand Cormier), which is on the outskirts of the urbanised parts of the commune.
