Entertainment And Dining Out
In the Bonn area, you can see that Ruhrgebiet has embraced its heritage by cleverly converting many of its smokestack buildings, lovingly referred to as ’cathedrals of industry’ into museums, concert halls, cinemas, restaurants, lookouts, playgrounds, and other venues. You will find dozens of the converted areas linked along the 400km (250 mile) Industrial Heritage Trail that takes in such cities as Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg and Bochum. Most sites are also served by public transport. The route’s central visitors’ centre is at the Zollverein colliery complex in Essen. Dining options in Bonn, Germany include Der Spanier. This is more than a restaurant; it’s also a food store. This local favourite is the place to meet for wine and conversation. Try the grilled gambas (shrimp), crunchy fried calamari, and other Iberian staples. You can help yourself to a bottle of wine from the shelf, and pay a small corkage fee to drink it with dinner.
The closest airport to Bonn is the Cologne-Bonn airport (IATA: CGN, ICAO: EDDK). Buses from the airport to Bonn’s main rail station run every 30 minutes. The city centre is small and you can walk to most places. Bonn has an excellent bus, night bus, tram, and subway system operated by the local Stadtwerke Bonn.
