Chengdu is a city and the capital of the Sichuan province in south west China. In the northern suburbs of Chengdu is a breeding centre for giant pandas. This is the only one that exists in the world in a metropolitan area. The Sichuan Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve is only 130 kilometres (80 miles) outside Chengdu.

Chengdu offers a great central location for sight-seeing in the region. It is very close to the holy Buddhist mountain of Emei Shan. This is where the incredible Grand Buddha of Leshan was carved out of a cliff. The Buddha is 71m (225ft) high. Kuanzhaixiangzi this small area that offers historic streets and several tea houses, restaurants, and snack stalls. Tianfu Square is located in the centre of Chengdu. Here you will find a large statue of Chairman Mao and an elaborate water show in the fountains that takes place at noon and at dusk. Sichuan cuisine is a distinctly spicy Chinese food offering. Typical dishes include Ma Po Tofu - Bean curd with mince and chilli oil. To try this local food, Chen Ma Po’s Bean Curd Restaurant has been a popular choice for hundreds of years.
The Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is located 16 km (10 miles) south west of downtown. As a major railway junction, this city is the terminus for the Baoji-Chengdu, Chengdu-Chongqing, Chengdu–Kunming, and Chengdu-Dazhou Railways, as well as the Chengdu-Dujiangyan High-Speed Railway.
